The Playstation 5 casts its shadow ahead. Game studios are apparently already working with the first developer devices and the rumor mill is seething. And that, although a publication is due in 2019 at the earliest.
The processor
Despite the still relatively young Playstation 4 Pro (since 2017), the real generation change is expected to be in 2019 or 2020.
The technical structure of the Playstation 5 will probably resemble the PS4 and PS4 Pro. Sony should therefore again put on chips from AMD. According to recent rumors, this is an 8-core processor based on Zen. This is reported by the usually well-informed blog Semiaccurate.
With a generation jump in the main processor of the Playstation 5 is expected. That's essential for true 4K gaming. Even if the rumors so far are no more than speculation.
Graphics chip and memory
In terms of graphics, Sony will probably finally want to deliver a true 4K console on the Playstation 5. According to the blog, the Navi graphics card architecture will be used as the technical basis. This wants to introduce AMD 2019.
So far, a majority of games on the PS4 Pro either in the intermediate resolution of 1440p or it is tricked with dynamic resolutions to achieve a 4K representation. Both the graphics power and the memory should therefore be significantly improved.
The Playstation 5 should be a native representation of games in 4K standard. However, it may still be doubted that all "big" titles expire in 4K at 60 frames per second.
The storage itself also has room for speculation. Sony could put again on price-technical reasons on a classical hard drive, then however probably by default with 2 instead of 1 GB size. Alternatively, a flash memory such as an SSD would be conceivable to finally reduce the usually long load times on console.
For a real boost in load times, the use of an SSD in the Playstation 5 would make sense. For cost reasons, however, the use of a classic hard drive should continue to be more realistic. But then by default with at least 2 TB capacity.
Is game streaming the future?
Services like Playstation Now show that game streaming works, but there are still limitations. Not every potential customer has a lightning fast Internet connection. At least one console generation will therefore still exist.
Experts reckon that a new Sony console will be downwardly compatible due to the similarity to PS4. Say: games for the predecessor could then continue to be used on the PS5. Current PS4 hits like "Horizon Zero Dawn" may also run on the PS5 Current PS4 hits like "Horizon Zero Dawn" will probably run on the PS5
The Playstation 5 will again rely on classic media and digital downloads of games. Perhaps Playstation Now will be extended or a gaming flat rate similar to the Xbox Game Pass also introduced on Sony's system.
Virtual reality, price and appointment
Also possible is a second and improved version of the Playstation VR. Finally, the PS5 will enable virtual reality games in higher resolution. A successor of the PSVR could possibly also be wireless.
And the price? Sony will also pay attention to the PS5 to offer the console affordable. In the past, the company has had bad experiences with too high prices. A selling price between 499 and 599 dollars should therefore be realistic.
