In the week of our hands-on report celebrates the P20 series from Huawei their market launch, we have in addition to the P20 Pro meanwhile also the cheap P20 lite with us as a guest and now we want to start our review. Of course, it comes with very new devices first in the first impression, how good or bad cuts the Huawei P20 lite in the first few hours? As with many other reviewers, I have set up the P20 lite directly as a Daily Driver.
Visually, the P20 lite produces something, you can even improve the premium design of the predecessor even a little. In any case, there are slimmer display frame, because despite almost identical housing size are now fully 5.8 inches display installed and of course in 18: 9 or with Notch in 19: 9 format. There is progress to the predecessor, but perhaps too few?From month to month, the current Huawei software looks stale to me, visually a mix of Asia snack and holo design of Android 4.4. I'm missing a bit of the Google-given material design of the current generation. Even the heavily modified parts dialog is still there and still annoys me. With its own launcher and icon pack but at least the look is bearable, only the style of the notifications I have to accept.
Positive: 5 GHz, the WLAN finally, the USB port is now type C and the data storage whopping 64 gigabytes in size. So-so: Quasi there is no progress in the drive, because the 4 gigabytes of RAM are of course sufficient, the processor makes it unfortunately no noticeable jumps in comparison to the previous year. A (minor) bottleneck at Huawei, at least in the middle class.
The new iPhone look definitely conveys the I-am-in-the-trend feeling, but does one have to have that? In the first few hours the P20 lite convinces, but does not displace the P10 lite yet. In the coming weeks, I'm really looking forward to see if the new mid-range smartphone offers really noticeable added value for the higher price (367 to 235 euros).
